Curatorial Statement
Young people often come across dilemmas in life.
On the one hand they constantly seek for individuality and to build a life style, on the other hand living in the present has made their lives become increasingly formulistic; work exhaustively as if they can chase after the plots of life. ‘Art of living’ is easy to say, however, the paradox comes at living in such a busy city: the slower pace you take in life the more sacrifices you would have to make, and there’s no exception for young artists. Put yourself in the creator’s shoes, the struggle they face and its impact to them could be a lot more intense than how we can imagined, since to feel and make observations of life are one of their responsibilities to the society or the burden of self.
Art appreciation does not limited to a particular artwork; although creative thoughts infused from the slightest matter, thorough details should be notified once we take a sweeping view. Artwork created by Ng Ka-chun and Sum Wing-man give an overall feeling that differ from the stylized, but an attitude set off from dealing with life dilemmas. They transform their formulistic lives into interesting sidelights, in form of short sketches and with aesthetic thinking. They evoke an appealing atmosphere that exceeds creativity, something intriguingly influential – an ability to embody and hover poetic sentiment in one’s life.
Local youngsters are being identified and analyzed as a whole in these recent years; can we not discover the specialties?
